Quilt Barns of East Tennessee

If you have been following our blog then you know that we have been a little arms preoccupied with quilt barns lately.  Starting with Shop Hop, we unveiled the photos of 12 of our favorites printed on fabric as part of each shop's block.  Then in July we were privileged to attend a bed turning and luncheon to benefit the Quilt Trail of Northeast TN.

We are pleased to announce the next phase of quilt barns for Holloway's Country Home.  Maria has been working with Paintbrush Studios to design and print this wonderful new panel.

It features each of our Twelve favorite quilt barns on a single panel.  The artist rendition highlights the beauty of each barn and the quilt block hung on it.  Each barn measures approximately 7"x9" and the colors coordinate beautifully with much of the Marblehead line by Ro Gregg, also from Paintbrush Studios.

We recently received a few sample panels as part of the first run of printing.  We will be shipping all preorders in late October.  Each panel is $16.95 plus $3.00 shipping.

The kit is also available for preorder!  Ask for details!

Great news for all of you who are attending AQS Chattanooga this week!  If you preorder at our booth we will pay the shipping for you!

Stop by and see Maria and Dawn today to order yours!

Digital Dahlias

One of the recent trends in fabric production is digital printing.  We have become so accustomed to sharp, digital pictures everywhere in our lives, it's only natural that quilters would be clamoring for it in the fabric medium as well.

This is Maria's newest creation using one the digitally printed panels and it's companion fabric.  This is so simple and easily could be pieced in an afternoon.

The fabric also feels so soft.  Come by our booth at AQS Chattanooga this week or visit us at the shop to see and feel this wonderful new line!

Printing on Fabric Anyone?

Over the next few days Holloway's will be posting about some of our featured products for the AQS show starting September 15th in Chattanooga.  Today's featured product is a our set of 12 original flower photo prints on fabric.

Maria's granddaughter Angela is a wonderful photographer and has taken beautiful shots of some of our local flowers.  We are pleased to announce that she has been busy printing a wonderful selection of these on fabric.  The sets of 12 flowers will available for purchase at the AQS show in Chattanooga.

As you know Holloway's is a family business so the printing of the flowers fell to Angela too. From the pictures she gave us for the this blog, it looks like she may not have realized just how many she was going to need to print! Hahaha!

She definitely has been busy!

Maria has been busy too.  She designed a new pattern to go with the floral prints.  Kits for this quilt will also be available in Chattanooga.

Are we whetting your appetite yet?  Wait until you see tomorrow's featured product!
The wheels have been turning at Holloway's Country Home!

Off to a Great Start!

Shop Hop 2015 is off to a great start!  We have been so thrilled to see first timers and returning customers!  The first three days have been a whirlwind of customers and special guests.

Saturday was a fantastic day.  Out on the porch customers were welcomed by Maria, Sue Jones of Its Sew Sue, and Susie Cunard of Sawgrass.  These "designing women" have been cooking up some fantastic new ideas to share later in the year. So keep your eyes and ears posted for updates.

Maria even was able to sneak in some time for pictures with some of our shop hoppers!

Have you mapped out the rest of your hop yet?  Hope to see you this week at Holloway's!

Wilderness Wildlife Week

In the past few years Maria has slowed down on traveling to shows.  Or so she tells us.....

While she may not be traveling all across America to go to shows, she is still adding local shows to her repertoire.

This year Holloway's Country Home was asked to participate in Wilderness Wildlife Week in Pigeon Forge.

A quilt booth at Wilderness Wildlife Week?  Yes, a quilt booth at Wilderness Wildlife Week.

There is even a mini-quilt show!
This quilt show exhibits many of the nature and wildlife quilts created by local quilters as well as a showing from the Quilts of Valor, Smoky Mountain chapter.

As our loyal customers know our use of fabrics is not limited to the sewing machine.  We use our scraps to make rag rugs. And Maria is offering rag rug classes during the week.  And for the ones who are unable to attend classes, you can stop by the booth and see us demo the rag rug making process.

And of course anywhere Maria goes she is always designing and creating.  Here she is at the show working with some of the latest arrivals of precuts.

If you are in the area, Wilderness Wildlife Week runs through Saturday, January 31st at the Leconte Center in Pigeon Forge, TN.
Thanks to the city of Pigeon Forge for inviting us to be part of such a great event.

Missing James

As most of you know Maria is not only Grammy, she is also a Great Grammy to the adorable little boy who poses in many of our pics.

James and his mommy come by to see us at the shop almost every day, but they are a vacation to visit  family and friends out of state.  For two long weeks!!

This results in Maria looking like this:

And this:

But she's not alone.  Audrey plays with James almost every day and she is missing him too.

So Audrey came to give Grammy hugs!

Angela, Mikel, and especially James, have fun on your trip.

But these two say HURRY HOME!!!!

Frantically Trying to Complete a Sample

Maria is always designing new quilts.  Actually her newest release can be seen on p. 55 of the September issue of American Quilter.  It's a beauty that features the AQS 30th Anniversary Dogwood Fabrics and original artwork from one of Maria's friends in the Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Community. This quilt has been a venture into a new realm of quilting for us.  In order to put the beautiful paintings from Stewart Gallery (Art of the Smokies) onto fabric we have acquired and begun using the Fabricmaker by Sawgrass.  As a matter of fact, we were even surprised by Suzy our rep from Sawgrass this morning.  Look for more exciting things to come your way through this foray into printing our own fabric.

But now I'm going to share a little known secret with you.  Maria has a problem.  She consistently will sell her sample before we even release the pattern and kits.  And guess what?  She's done it again.

Now if you come by the shop today you might see Maria working frantically to complete a new sample.  AQS Chattanooga is just a mere 4 weeks away.  But as customers come in you will see her at the machine with a smile on her face.

But when others aren't looking this is the face of frantic sewing and creating.  Just a reminder that even when you are a designer and a shop owner those last minute deadlines will get you every time.
